Mental Health First Aid Training

Award Solutions is a registered charity based on Merseyside which has been established to deliver accredited awards to adults and young people. Our vision is to deliver an outstanding service that is going to develop young people’s personal and social skills.

Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health

(4 hours) Minimum Age 18 Years On Line and 14 Years in Class delivery.

All topics explored underpin the key learning outcomes for the sessions which are, for each attendee to: 

  • Know what mental health is, why people might develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider in mental health.
  • Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a suspected mental health condition
  • Know how to recognise and manage stress
  • Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions (such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, risk of suicide, self-harm)

The course is accredited and valid for 3 years. After the online course there will be a recorded professional discussion, online to discuss learning from the course, with the course Tutor, to gain your certificate.

LEVEL 2 First Aid for Mental Health

A 1-Day course which expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace. A minimum of 6 hours spread over one day

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Stress
  • Mental health conditions
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • First Aid for Mental Health action plan
  • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace

A certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.

Assessment A range of methods are used, including practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

 

Supervising First Aid for Mental Health LEVEL 3

This 2-Day course goes into detail on a wide range of mental health conditions and the support and help provided by healthcare professionals. A minimum of 12 hours spread over at least two days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days. The minimum age is 16 years old.  A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Self-harm
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Suicide
  • Stress
  • Eating disorders
  • Mental health conditions
  • Personality disorders
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Bipolar disorder
  • First Aid for Mental Health action plan
  • Psychosis
  • Schizophrenia
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace

A Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement.
