Jenny lives in Southport (not your traditional outdoor venue) and after gaining the certificate in part-time Youth and Community Work went on to work in various youth clubs delivering curriculum based informal education and the D of E Award.
Jenny’s passion for the outdoors stems from her upbringing in Alston, Cumbria (highest market town in England), growing up in an era where there was freedom for children to roam the fields and fells, scrambling over rocks, canoeing, swimming in the rivers, and sailing in the Lake District. All this led to climbing, starting late in life as an adult, but still young enough to enter local and regional competitions.
Climbing took Jenny to places all over England and Wales, with some memorable trips to Snowdonia, Anglesey, and the Lakes, some forays into Scotland and several trips to France. Other places have been Spain and Morocco was the latest.
Jenny has trekked in the Pyrenees and the Ardeche in France, and is looking forward to doing more. Other highlights have been two sailing trips, supervising an all girl group with the Ocean Youth Club, sailing from Holyhead to The Isle of Man, Belfast, and Dublin and on the south coast for a gold D of E group.
Gaining the Single Pitch Award (SPA) Jenny took over managing the local climbing wall at the YMCA and after joining the Awards Team within the local authority youth service, gained her Summer ML. Going on to become an archery leader and becoming a member of the local archery club. In 2011, Jenny became an accredited D of E assessor up to Gold level complimenting the supervisory role out in the field, and in 2013, qualified as a teaching assistant and now delivers expedition training in youth centres within Sefton alongside her work with Award Solutions.
As part of Jenny’s ongoing personal and professional development Jenny has attended a National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) and an Equal Adventure training day and Sports Coach UK training.
